The Promenade at Howard Hughes Center off the 405 and Howard Hughes Parkway is in the midst of a much-needed rework, with a name change to boot, HHLA. It’s taken over a year, but is close to completion and bringing potentially 15 new restaurants and bars to Los Angeles. That includes its first food tenant, Huntington Beach’s Ways & Means Oyster House.

Ways & Means Oyster House will sit within a 4,430 square foot restaurant, and a 630 square foot patio. The full-service oyster house and seafood restaurant is on a serious expansion track, with three additional locations opening in La Jolla, Del Mar, and Austin next spring. At HHLA, Ways & Means will be complete by August 2019.

As for HHLA, it’s safe to assume that many were put off by the former Promenade’s poor layout. The massive parking structure was an awkward walk to shops, movie theaters, and restaurants. With few places to sit or walk outside, the Promenade felt like a relic from LA’s architectural past. And The Festival Companies is leading the merchandising for the roughly $30 million redevelopment, with an open and walkable design.

Half of the Promenade’s previous tenants will be replaced by new shops and restaurants, with a mix of approximately dine-in and fast-casual eateries. In an attempt to lure evening patrons, they’re also looking to add bars to the complex. HHLA’s redevelopment began in 2017 and should complete in 2019.
